Day 1. Pinguin Colony and travel to Puerto Natales.
We will pick you up with our private vehicle from your hotel or the airport in Punta Arenas. From there we will drive to Sound Otway (40 km/24 miles gravel road), a fjord north-east of Punta Arenas which is home to the second largest colony of Magellan Penguins in their natural environment.
After touring the observation trail (1 hour), we will continue our journey to Puerto Natales (3.5 hours). While traveling across the immensity of the Patagonian pampas, molded by ancient glaciers, we will spot several representatives of native fauna: guanacos, foxes, rheas and flamingos. We will see the typical Magellanic Estancias (ranches), of endless land and abundant sheep. We can make a stop for lunch on the way if necessary. (Optional Navigation to the Magdalena Island to see a penguins colony)
Once in Puerto Natales, we will go on a brief tour around the city to point out the various dining and shopping options of the area, before taking you to your hotel.
Day 2. Torres del Paine National Park, Glacier Grey.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am, and head to the enormous cave “Cueva del Milodón” (a giant ground sloth that existed 10,000 years ago).
Then we will drive (1 hour, gravel road) towards Torres del Paine National Park. We will get to the area of Lake Grey, and enjoy lunch at the Hotel while looking at huge blue icebergs floating in front of us, through the windows.
Later we will walk for 20 minutes across an old-growth beech forest to the pier of the “Grey II”, boat that will take us on an unforgettable cruise on Lake Grey (3 hours total) to approach the Glacier Grey’s front wall to within a few meters. Its deep blue ice and impressive size are absolutely breathtaking. Our car will then take us to the mountain village Pueblito Serrano (35 km/21 miles.) where the hotel is located.
Day 3. Half-day in the Park and travel to El Calafate.
After enjoying breakfast with a beautiful view of the mountains, we will venture back into the Park and travel a different road. We will be delighted by waterfalls, lakes, grasslands, hanging glaciers and high summits. We will be impressed by the magnificence of Mount Paine Grande (3.500m/10,040ft), and the Cuernos del Paine (horn-like formations of two contrasting colours of rock). We will also see the iconic Torres del Paine, three huge granite towers ( 2.850m/9,120ft). We will get to the know the flora and fauna of the Park, including guanacos, foxes, rheas, ducks, flamingos, condors and more.
Once outside the Park we will drive to Cerro Castillo (a small gaucho village located on the border with Argentina) where we can get lunch. From this point we will cross into Argentina towards El Calafate (3.5 hours). After driving along vast pampas, we will reach the city and arrive at the hotel.
Day 4. Perito Moreno Glacier, return to Puerto Natales.
In the early morning we will pick you up and head in the direction of Glacier Perito Moreno, in Los Glaciares National Park (60 km/37 miles). We will drive across the Patagonian steppe until we reach mountainous areas covered by dense humid forests. Right off the vehicle we will be a few meters from the glacier’s colossal frontal wall, very likely to be surprised by noisy calvings of ice. We will head back to the city of El Calafate where we can stop for lunch and then continue towards Puerto Natales (4 hrs). to your hotel for the night.
